Elite Sport & Culture Week was an event sponsored by the Sports Management Department under the direction of Dr. Bonnie Tiell, Professor of Sports Management. The purpose of this event was to bring former Olympians to Tiffin University to meet students and community in Seneca County and the surrounding areas. The Olympians also took pictures with community members and visited the various schools in and around Tiffin, Ohio. The Olympians were honored to be able to share their experiences being on an Olympic team whether they were coaching or participating. The Olympians hailed from the United States as well as various countries abroad. It was my pleasure to escort some Olympians to the schools (and a Nursing Home) so that the students and the residents (respectively) could talk to them and share with them a few stories. This experience that was afforded to so many made an impact on the lives of so many people, including my own. People who missed the opportunity to attend the "Opening" of the Elite Sports & Culture Week Ceremony missed an excellent presentation. The Tiffin University Blow-up Dragon (Mascot) was in place for the Olympians to walk through as they were being presented to the public. The flags of all the countries were displayed and students from the schools as well as the college students were able to carry the flags in the ceremony. The preparation for this event took and lot of time and planning but with the cooperation of all of the team players, it became a success. We ran into issues from time to time, however, those issues soon disappeared when the team players worked together to make this event, successful.
Purpose for Bringing the Olympians to Tiffin
The Olympians are coming! The Olympians are coming! This is what was shouted all over Seneca County and the surrounding areas in preparation for the arrival of a select group of former Olympians.
